Murphy Monitor awarded
Business of the Year
Close to 100 people attended "A Night of Stars," the Murphy Chamber's annual award banquet Friday, Jan. 20 at the Hyatt Place in Garland.
Awards were presented by outgoing Chair Steve Long and incoming Chair Zane Shepherd.
The Murphy Monitor was awarded Business of the Year.

"The Monitor has always supported the Chamber in all we do," Long said. "They're a major sponsor of our events and Janice's smiling face is always at the luncheon registration table. We thank you for all you do for the chamber."
Shepherd presented Long with the Golden Gavel for outstanding service to the chamber.

"We made great strides while you were chair and I hope to continue our evolution," Shepherd said. "I look forward to continuing to work with you and having you take the lead role in our multi-chamber events."
The next multi-chamber event is the second annual Tri-Chamber Swing into Spring Golf Tournament on Friday, April 20.
A hallmark of 2011 was the growth of the chamber's weekly business card exchange. Saxbys was awarded Member of the Year, recognized for hosting the chamber's Business Card Exchanges for the last three years.
The New Member of the Year Award was presented to Ed Williamson, HD Remodeling.
Ambassadors of the Year were Pam Arnell, All Around Girl and Linda Yoo, Persona Marketing. Jose Santamaria, America's Best Karate and Kickboxing, was awarded the Colorful Character award. All four were instrumental in growing the business card exchanges, inviting several new business owners every month.

Sammie Hampton, Edward Jones, was presented the Volunteer of the Year award. She has received an award every year since the chamber's beginning.

Peak Physical Therapy was recognized as the Business that Continues to Impact. Owners Steve Long and Steve Cole have served on the Chamber board for several years, as chairman and events chair, respectively. This year, Cole will be the board's secretary and Long will assume the Immediate Past Chair position.

Board members Jim Moebius, DVM from Murphy Road Animal Hospital and Marv Williams, Healthy Living Solutions, were awarded the Chairman's Award for service above and beyond in 2011. This year, Moebius will be the vice chair and Williams will be a director-at-large.

"Our banquet is a great way to acknowledge the past year's hard work and kick-off the new year," Shepherd said. "We will continue to do great things in 2012."
