Mission Statement: The Murphy Chamber of Scholarship Foundation was founded as a 501 (c) (3) Non-Profit Corporation in 2006. Our mission is to award graduating Murphy resident seniors scholarship monies to further their education, and have awarded over 60 Murphy students!

Meet our Murphy Chamber of Commerce 2022 Scholarship Recipients

Rawaan Alhaddad has lived in Murphy almost 16 years. She attended Plano East Senior High School and will continue her education at the University of Washington to major in international studies on a pre-law track. Her favorite Murphy memory is when she voted for the first time in the Murphy Community Center. This was a full circle moment for her, since she grew up going to the community center as a kid.

Rajveer Dhesi has lived in Murphy for 15 years. He attended Wylie High School and will continue his education at University of Texas at Austin to major in psychology and intends on going to medical school. His favorite Murphy memory is going through the trails in Maxwell Creek and taking evening walks with his family when he was younger.

Lauren Jones has lived in Murphy for 17 years. She attended Wylie High School and will continue her education at University of Arkansas Honors College to major in Engineering and minor in Communications.  Her favorite Murphy memory is going to the Murphy Sounds at Sundown concerts with her friends and family. She loved watching the sunsets and being outdoors with her friends.

– Dault Financial Scholarship –

Michelle Ofoegbu has lived in Murphy for 18 years. She attended Wylie High School. She will attend the University of Texas at Austin in the fall where she will major in Business. Her favorite Murphy memory is the Murphy Fire Department driving through her street and Santa handing out candy from the top of the fire truck. When she heard the fire truck siren, she would run down the stairs in excitement because she knew Santa was paying her a visit.

– Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea (Murphy location) Scholarship –

Victoria Omah has lived in Murphy for 18 years. She attended Wylie High School and will continue her education at University of Texas at Austin and major in Biology on the pre-med track. Her favorite Murphy memory is attending the summer dance programs at the Murphy City Hall as a child. Without those classes, she said she would have never discovered her love for dancing.

– Linda Marie Smith Scholarship –

Hayden Phillips has lived in Murphy for 4 years. He attended Phillips Homeschool Academy. He will attend Collin College in the Fall and plans to start his basics and take a Real Estate class in hopes of becoming a Real Estate agent. His favorite Murphy memory is helping lead Summerific Fun, an event First Baptist Murphy created for children to play games and learn about Jesus. Hayden enjoys going out and serving his community. 

Eric Rice is a Murphy native. He attended Plano East Senior High School and will continue his education at Harding University in Searcy, AR and will pursue an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Bible. His favorite Murphy memory has been all the years he attended Murphy Maize Days. He said he always thought it was so special that our small community comes together to celebrate our history.

Claire Tweedie is a Murphy native. She attended Plano East Senior High and will continue her education at DePaul University in Chicago where she will major in Journalism. Her favorite Murphy memory is her first 5k run with her dad and younger brother at Maize Days. They spent all day enjoying the festival and had a barbeque with family to round out the night.

Meet our Murphy Chamber of Commerce 2021 Scholarship Recipients

Cameron Foley has lived in Murphy for five years. He attended Plano East Senior High School. He will be attending the UTD Honors College majoring in psychology and minoring in audio engineering. His favorite memory in Murphy is all the times he helped out at Maize Days when he was in Police Explorers.

Nick Harrison has lived in Murphy for 12 years. He attended Wylie High School. He will attend Rice University in the fall and is planning to double major in theatre and business. His favorite memory in Murphy is playing in the snow with his family. They had snowball fights, explored the nearby creek, slid around on the ice, and ended the day with warm cocoa. He will never forget the memories that he and his family have made.

Julia Hodges has lived in Murphy 14 years. She attended Wylie High School. She will attend Texas Tech University and major in architecture with a minor in tech theatre. Her favorite Murphy memory is performing Puffs at the Murphy Amphitheater. “We went there every night for a week to rehearse and got to perform outside. It was an amazing learning experience and a super cool place to be,” she said. “I made a great memory and was a part of the first play to ever be put on that stage!”

Garrett Jobe has lived in Murphy for 18 years. He attended Wylie High School. He will attend Brigham Young University Provo in the fall and plans to major in mechanical engineering with an aerospace emphasis. He also plans to participate in Air Force ROTC Detachment 855 in order to commission into the United States Air Force. His favorite Murphy memory is fishing at the lake in front of city hall with his family.

Claire Menjoulet has lived in Murphy 18 years. She attended Wylie High School. She will attend Texas State Technical College in the fall to pursue a degree in welding. Her favorite Murphy memory was going to the open house for the new fire station where her father entered her and her brother’s name in a raffle and they won a ride home from school in the fire truck. “It was an amazing experience, and I remember it really well, even though it was ten years ago.”

Abi Williams has lived in Murphy 14 years. She attended Wylie High School. She plans to attend the University of Oklahoma to major in broadcast journalism. Her favorite memory of Murphy is going to the Rainbow Trout Roundup and getting to fish with her family. She also enjoyed going on walks with her mom and dogs on the park trails.

Meet our Murphy Chamber of Commerce 2020 Scholarship Recipients

Hailey Baldwin has been a Murphy resident for 17 years. She attended Plano East Senior High. She will attend Brigham Young University and major in Business Marketing. Her favorite Murphy memory is having a Ninja Turtle painted on her face each of her high school years…even if homecoming was later that night.

Sydney Cain has lived in Murphy for 15 years. She attended Wylie High School. She will attend Collin College in the fall and plans to transfer to University of North Texas to major in Psychology. Her favorite Murphy memory is going to Maize Days with her family. Her mom was a vendor at the event and the family enjoyed helping at her booth. She also liked the music and watching fireworks with her family.  

Kayla Calderon has lived in Murphy since she was about a month old (18 years). She attended Plano East Senior High. She will attend University of Notre Dame in the fall and major in Biology following a genetics and pre-med pathway. Her favorite Murphy memory is attending Maize Days with her family. They would play all day and stay for the fireworks. When she got older, she volunteered at Maize Days with her friends. She adds when September rolls around, she will really miss this tradition.

Michael Malone has lived in Murphy for 10 years. He attended Plano East Senior High. He will attend University of North Texas where he will major in Sports Management. His favorite Murphy memory is winning the city championship for basketball in 8th grade and winning back-to-back, undefeated city championships in football in 7th and 8th grade.

Veronica McDermott has lived in Murphy for almost eight years. She attended Wylie High School. She will attend University of Texas at Tyler and will pursue a bachelor's degree in nursing. Her favorite Murphy memory is listening to the Murphy Sounds at Sundown concerts in the summer. Each year her family looks forward to walking down to the amphitheater, setting up blankets and chairs, and enjoying great music and the beautiful Texas weather. 

Katie Williams has lived in Murphy her entire life, 18 years. She attended Wylie High School. She will attend University of North Texas and major in anthropology. Her favorite Murphy memory is when Santa would come through her neighborhood on the Murphy Fire Department fire truck. She loved going outside with her family and kids on her street to see such an exciting celebrity riding on top of the engine.

Meet our Murphy Chamber of Commerce 2019 Scholarship Recipients

Rohan Mehta has been a Murphy resident since 2010. He attended Plano East Senior High. He will attend UT Austin and major in Biomedical Engineering. His favorite memories of living in Murphy are volunteering at the Boggess Elementary carnival each year, as well as shopping for groceries with his stepmom at Sprouts.  

Avery Moore has lived in Murphy for 15 years. She attended Plano East Senior High. She will attend University of Oklahoma and major in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She describes her favorite memory of living in Murphy, “There’s a tradition at Plano East where the show choirs go out to lunch at Country Burger every Friday. Some of my favorite memories have been at Country Burger where I’m surrounded by all my friends having a good time.”

Janice Rotich has lived in Murphy since 2008. She attended Ursuline Academy of Dallas. She will attend the University of Cincinnati and major in Neuroscience. Her favorite memory of living in Murphy is going to Foxii’s every Wednesday night with her family for their wing special. She said, “If we chose to order takeout instead, Mikeala the waitress would recognize my voice every time I called and would know my exact order before I even said it.”

Megan Snopik has lived in Murphy for eight years. She attended Wylie High School. She will attend the University of Texas in Austin and major in Government (political science). Her favorite memory of living in Murphy is running along the green belt paths and walking to the night concerts at the amphitheater.

Jacob Walker has lived in Murphy for 12 years. He attended Bishop Lynch High School. He will attend Oklahoma State University and major in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering. His favorite memory of living in Murphy is the block parties they had on their street when he was growing up. He said, “It was a lot of fun to hang out with the other kids and eat really good food.”

 Andre Williams has lived in Murphy for 14 years. He attended Wylie High School. He will attend Make School Product College in San Francisco and major in Computer Science. He describes his favorite memory of living in Murphy, “When I was eight years old, my dad, sisters and I went bike riding on Murphy Road. Halfway to our destination, my dad ran over a nail resulting in a flat tire. A man, who lived on Murphy Road and had witnessed our misfortune, came out to fix my dad’s tire and we were able to continue on our bike ride. That stranger’s actions showed us the friendliness of Murphy residents and what it means to live in a loving community.”
